A Very Special Wedding, In a Very Special Venue

This weekend Vanilla catered for a wedding held in one of Britain’s hidden treasures, Upper House Hayfield. UHH is located within 30 acres of private woodland and is an original luxury accommodation for up to 21 guests. The house offers unparalleled views of Kinder Reservoir and Kinder Scout, if you love walking and countryside pursuits, there is simply nowhere better. Upper House has a long fascinating history which includes intriguing characters such as Sir James Watts, Mary Augusta Ward and Agatha Christie.

Upper House stands isolated on the side of Kinder Scout, at the convergence of ancient pack horse routes from Glossop, Hayfield and Edale. Sir James Watts Mayor of Manchester sold the land to Stockport Water Authority for the Reservoir in the late 1800’s, Sir James insisted that he retain Upper House as his shooting lodge and set about improving it with the talented architects, the estate was then used solely for recreation, with two woodlands being created to enhance the available game stocks on the moors.

The beautiful location of Upper House and the great food service resulted in a extra special wedding day for Vanilla’s very own Simon, we hope you enjoyed our menu of whipped goats cheese and pickled veg, halibut, cheshire smoked beef artichoke puree and oxtail croquet and our trio creme brûlée chocolate pot tart tartan.

Overall the menu, location and ceremony came together to make a lovely day for everyone. We would like to congratulate Simon and his lovely new wife Elizabeth.

Owen House Barn & Our Upcoming Open Day

On Sunday 14th of February the Vanilla team had a wonderful time catering for the Owen House Barn Open Day. Owen House Barn, located in Mobberley in the Cheshire countryside, is a popular wedding venue. The family run setting offers a unique wedding experience, utilising its recently converted barn, that still maintains its rustic and countryside charm, as its primary space. A fantastic day was had by all, we always love visiting our friends at Owen House Barn, the venue is spectacular and the people are lovely!

Chetham’s has been in continuous use as a free public library for over 350 years, however the beautiful building is also open as a fantastic function space. The library can hold anything from ceremonies and drinks receptions to wedding breakfasts which are all hosted in a series of period rooms with flexibility to accommodate the most intimate gathering or much larger event.

Chetham’s Library Wedding Open Day

There’s a brand new wedding venue in the North West and we’re very excited about it. Welcome to Chetham’s Library.

You may have seen our blog a couple of weeks ago taking a look Behind the Scenes of a Bridal Shoot at the venue. This week we thought we’d bring you some history about the library.

Chetham’s Library was founded in 1653 and is the oldest public library in England. As an independent charity it remains open to readers and visitors free of charge, although a minimum donation can be made of £3. The collection of books in the library have been designated as one of national and international importance, an accolade of which they are extremely proud. Chetham’s is a place steeped in history which makes it a perfect wedding venue.

Wedding ceremonies in this fascinating setting, are truly days to remember. Ceremonies are mostly held in the Baronial Hall, within the beautiful old sandstone walls of what was, other than the neighbouring church, the largest building in the medieval town of manchester.

Vanilla in Allseasons are delighted to say that we are the official event caterers for Chetham’s Library. Ceremonies, drinks receptions and wedding breakfasts can be hosted in a series of period rooms with flexibility to accommodate anything from the most intimate gathering to larger groups. If the beautiful Chetham’s is a venue that appeals to you then why not visit the Chetham’s Library Wedding Open Day on Sunday 21st February between 11am and 3:30pm where our expert catering team will be offering refreshments for you take in the gorgeous building.

Victor Haynes

Experience has taught us that you need a few ingredients to create a memorable event. Great company, fantastic food and excellent entertainment. Throughout the year we work many functions and see lots of great events with exceptional entertainers. From Singers and bands, to dancers, to the weird and wonderful; over the years we’ve seen it all.

One of our favourite people to work events with, however, is Victor Haynes a uniquely talented and experienced music artist based in Manchester. He’s worked in the music industry for a number of years as a live and studio artist. He’s written and produced 4 albums with his musical partner Pete May.

Victor is first and foremost a soul singer, deriving influence from the likes of Luther Vandross, George Benson and Lionel Richie. Victor’s experience and talent also means he is an accomplished jazz singer, playing tracks from artists such as Nat King Cole, Sinatra and Buble. Victor divides his work between solo performance with a quality backing tracks and as part of a duo with Dean D.sax Houston to their events a smooth jazz, Kenny G feel. Victor’s work caters to both up tempo dance sets and to laid back dinner party evenings.

Victor’s range of skills and versatility make him the perfect booking for any event or wedding. To book Victor for your special occasion call him on 07711 252009 or email

“Just wanted to say a massive thank you for catering our Wedding on Saturday, the food was truly amazing and the staff service was impeccable and they were so friendly!! Unbelievable team and wish I had gone into the kitchen to personally thank the chefs! The Weddings I have been to the foods always average but everyone commented how gorgeous the food was from the canapés all the way to the evening food! I actually managed to eat 3 canapés which is 3 more than I thought I would!! Mini Yorkshire puds we were all raving about! The main wedding breakfast was spot on! So glad we went for what we did! I think the groom Gavin would like to eat it all again please as unfortunately he chose to do his speech after the food which he is now regretting!! Thank you so much again for everything. Love Mr & Mrs Tomlinson xx”

Have a Halloween Mocktail

It’s Halloween! Whether you are you celebrating with a scary party, or simply staying in and waiting for the trick or treaters to pop by, it’s a great excuse to have fun in the kitchen. There really are so many great sweet and savoury dishes that you can create to celebrate the spooky event. From ghastly cookies to fun jelly slime cocktails there’s so many things to experiment with!

Here’s a fun jelly mocktail that’s quite simple to make and ideal for parties!

Eyeball snot-tail
The jellied texture and edible eyeball in this slimy mocktail are dreadfully delicious – perfect Halloween party fare for kids

You will need:
135g pack lime jelly
700ml apple & pear juice (we used Copella)
300ml lemonade
425g can lychees in syrup
10-15 cocktail cherries from a jar
10-15 raisins
You will need
10-15 cocktail sticks

Make the jelly following pack instructions and chill until set. Combine the apple & pear juice with the lemonade in a large jug and chill in the fridge.
To make the eyeballs, drain the lychees and poke a hole in each cherry with one of the cocktail sticks. Put the cherry inside the lychee, then push the raisin into the cherry. Press the eyeball onto the end of a cocktail stick and set aside until serving.
When the jelly has set, use a whisk to break it up into small chunks. Spoon into the cocktail glasses and top up with the apple juice mixture. Put an eyeball into each glass before serving. Recipe via BBC Good Food.
