A Sloe Day?

Sloe berries are in season now. Why not gather some and use them to make sloe gin? If you prepare it now, it will be ready just in time for Christmas. Perfect as gifts or festive drinks with friends.

You Will Need-

450g/1lb sloes
225g/8oz caster sugar
1 litre/1¾ pint gin

Method-
Prick your sloes, about 450g, with a needle or freeze them and bash with a heavy weight. Tip them into sterilised bottles, the fruit coming a third of the way up. Divide 350g of caster or granulated sugar among them then top up with gin or vodka. It will take about 750ml. Little point in using an expensive brand, by the way. Place the sealed bottles somewhere cool and dark. Leave for 8-10 weeks, turning the bottle occasionally, giving it a shake every week.

Fabulous Feedback

It’s always great to hear such positive feedback from our wonderful clients. This week we received this message from Laura & Ciaran McGarry whose wedding we catered for recently…

“Well- what can I say? I don’t even know where to start?! You did an AMAZING job!

The food went down an absolute storm- people are still commenting on the sheer quantity- but more importantly- quality of the food. It was absolutely gorgeous

I am so pleased that all of our guests were as impressed as we were and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you to everyone and anyone.

The staff were fantastic too- please say a huge thank you to them from us, very friendly and professional.

Thanks again Adam, for everything- from start to finish you were a star, you really made our day!

Well shucks. Thanks for the feedback guys. It’s messages like this that make us love what we do just a little bit more.

Courgette, Feta & Hazel Nut Salad

Courgettes are at their best right now, but many people are unsure how best to use them. This warm hearty salad is healthy, filling and simply delicious.

Use a potato peeler to slice strips of courgette then griddle or quick fry them with a little olive oil. Toss with spinach, salad leaves, hazel nuts and feta.

Drizzle with a little dressing and viola! A perfect healthy lunch or light dinner.

Classic Crêpe Dessert

Crepes make a fantastic sweet option for a wedding or event. They are not only delicious but their presentation is quite theatrical!

We love to flambe them and serve them in a traditional French style with Grand Marnier and fresh orange. Party guests love to watch them being prepared.

Why not consider Crepes for your event? Get in touch for more information.

Campfire Recipes

The final bank holiday of the year is upon us. Whether you are heading into the great outdoors for a spot of camping, taking a trip to the coastline or simple hanging out in the garden, a campfire cook up is a fun way to enjoy the last of the warmer weather.

Why not fill a barrel with ice and beers, set up a campfire, gather some friends and get cooking!

Here are some fantastic recipes to inspire you…

Cucumber Sandwich Anyone?

According to the Telegraph today, that bastion of British dining, the humble cucumber sandwich, is the ultimate cooling food to eat in the heat.

Although today’s temperatures may not be exactly scorching, we do love a classic cucumber sandwich!

These elegant open sandwiches would be perfect for a stylish afternoon tea at a wedding or event –

Cucumber sandwiches also make a delicious, healthy lunch. Try adding cream cheese or feta cheese, avocado, roasted nuts or egg to make them more filling.

Cucumber works beautifully with dill, parsley, black pepper, poppy seeds and even fresh chilli.

Thankyou!

Last week we catered for a wonderful wedding at Heaton House Farm. We love to cater for such special events and our team thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Of course, it is our job to deliver the best service possible, but it really does make all of our hard work worthwhile when we receive such lovely, genuine feedback…

“This is NOT an enquiry but a note of appreciation. On Saturday 18th August, you catered at Heaton House Farm for the wedding of my daughter, Jenny Hillebrandt, to Graham Beaver. I was aware of the menu beforehand and thought it sounded excellent but was even more impressed on the day. The presentation was stylish and the food tasted superb. Very many thanks.
Sally Hillebrandt”

Thankyou so much for your kind words Sally, it really is appreciated!

Beautiful Blackberries

Late summer is the season for Blackberries! Tart, sweet and delicious they are very versatile and work well with both sweet and savoury dishes. Although desserts are a favourite way to use them, they are also delicious when scattered in a salad.

Why not head outside and see if you can find some in the hedgerows? Collect as many as you can, they freeze well too.

If that sounds a bit too much, they are readily available in the supermarkets.
